Long Description

Our hike across the hills near Rucăr offers a breathtaking view over The Făgăraș Region and its Mountains. On the hills near the villages, we will admire varied relief elements, including  the “Pyramids”, to which the Romanian locals attributed various legends.

The Cistercian Abbey at Cârța is the only Cistercian Abbey that has been preserved in Romania, being also the most eastern Cistercian construction in Europe. The monastery was built by Cistercian monks from France-Citeaux (Burgundy) at the beginning of the 13th century. It is the first monastery that combines Romanesque style with early Gothic.

The Cincșor Fortified Church was built at the beginning of the 15th century by the Saxon community. It has two defense walls and 4 towers, providing shelter to the locals, but also a place of storing supplies.
